My “Giant iPhone” iPad Adventure: iPad 9th Generation Review

Watching Love Island in bed with my new iPad

Why I’m now an iPad kid

So, I’ve been racking up those recognition points at work like a digital squirrel hoarding acorns. Little did I know, my company was about to retire their rewards website, leaving me scrambling to cash out before my hard-earned points vanished into the internet abyss like my Bitcoin did after losing my passcode 🙁

Faced with a ticking clock and a catalog of “stuff I didn’t need,” I panicked and clicked on the shiniest object I could find: an iPad 9th generation. Like I said, I didn’t purchase this iPad, but after playing around with it for a few days, I definitely would!

Now, I’m not going to lie, my first impression was, “Well, this is basically just a giant iPhone.” And it kind of is. But hey, I went with the 64 gig version, so I’ve got storage for days. Plus, it’s surprisingly zippy. Everything feels smooth and responsive, just like my trusty iPhone. The camera is good, too – honestly better than my iPhone (considering 2 out of the 3 lenses are cracked).

Klutz-proof case

Speaking of which, because I’m such a klutz, I needed a case so I decided on this one – it was recommended on Amazon and seems really good for the price. Hopefully it holds up, but I’ll refrain from dropkicking my new gadget in the meantime.

Doodle Utensils

The real fun started when I tried my hand at digital doodling. The iPad’s big screen is perfect for sketching, but here’s the thing: I’m pretty sure you need the official Apple Pencil. I cheaped out and got a knock-off from Amazon, and let’s just say my lines look a little…shaky. It’s like trying to write a love letter with a crayon. BUT, it’s good for simple doodles and notes for the price ($20 vs $70…ya girl is CHEAP), so I’ll continue using it until I decide to try real graphic design for approximately 2.5 minutes before giving up.

Apple 4 Life

I like that I can design, draw, and create images, videos, and content on my iPad and can easily move that content over to my Mac or iPhone. The integration between all of my Apple products is unmatched, and is one of the reasons I’m an Apple girlie through and through.

All in all, this iPad is a fun little gadget. It’s not going to revolutionize my life, but it’s a great way to kill time on cross-country flights or while I binge-watch my Love Island in bed. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll splurge on that Apple Pencil and unleash my inner Picasso.
